When you hear the term domestic violence, in your mind’s eye, what sex appears as the perpetrator? What sex appears as the victim? If you thought of the heteronormative perspective which is a male perpetrator and a female victim, you are not alone. While female victims are often the focus of domestic violence studies, females are not the only victims. Males can be abused by their female partners. If limited clinical data shows that men can be victims of domestic violence, then what does the bioarchaeological record state regarding male victims of domestic violence? This presentation will compare and contrast evidence concerning female, male, and children clinical, historic, bioarchaeological data. It will answer the question, can you see male victims in the bioarchaeological record?

WARNING: Images of human skeletal remains will be shown during the power point presentation.
