The Santa Cruz Archaeological Society has received a number of awards, commendations, and proclamations over the years. This list includes those from 1978–1995 that have survived. 1978a – Dutton Hotel Restoration
The County of Monterey acknowledges with appreciation the contributions made by the Santa Cruz Archaeological Society to the protection and preservation of the Dutton Hotel, a National Register property. It was signed this first of September, 1978, by the Chairman of the Board of Supervisors and the Chairman of the Historical Advisory Committee.
1978b – Santa Cruz County Fair
The Santa Cruz Archaeological Society received the Purple Ribbon for the First Award for the Feature Booth (for public education) at the Annual Fair in Watsonville, California.
1983 – Society for California
The Santa Cruz Archaeological Society received a Special Achievement Award (for its work on the Scotts Valley City Hall site [CA-SCR-177]) preservation through public education and legal challenge.
1984a – Scotts Valley Historical Society
Presented the Santa Cruz Archaeological Society with a Certificate of Award and Gratitude for Outstanding Service to our Heritage. Signed by Geogann Marfield, President.
1984b – Santa Cruz Historical Society
Awarded a Certificate of Commendation to the Santa Cruz Archaeological Society for significant contributions to the maintenance and preservation of the Santa Cruz Heritage Signed by the President, Micki Ryan and William Burkhart of the Commendations Committee.
1984c – Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors 84c
A number of whereas documenting the work of the Santa Cruz Archaeological Society related to the Scotts Valley City Hall site and the continuing efforts to raise the community’s consciousness about the growing importance of our heritage. Signed by Joe Cucchiara.
1992 – Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors
Proclamation honoring 20 years of the Santa Cruz Archaeological Society for many things; public education, volunteer surveys, organizing the largest volunteer salvage in California to date for the Scotts Valley, City Hall site, monthly lectures, special lectures and film series, participation in the Adobe Coalition Fiesta Days, provided volunteers for many excavations in Northern California, and twenty years of community service. 1994 – California Governor’s Award for Volunteer Organizations
The Santa Cruz Archaeological Society was presented this award on May 18th in Sacramento. The award was for active involvement in and promotion for archaeological preservation and presented from the State Historic Preservation Office, by Cherilyn Widell (State Historic Preservation Officer) and Dr. Robert Hoover (Chairman of the State Historic Preservation Commission). Also present was Julia Costello, President of the Society for California Archaeology and local State Assembly Member, Bruce McPherson.
1995 – Society for California Archaeology
Awards the Santa Cruz Archaeological Society the Helen C. Smith Award for Avocational Society Achievement for a long history of positive actions.
